1,136,935. Lubricant-stabilizer compositions. R. HOESCH, and O. HOESCH. 10 March, 1966 [10 March, 1965], No. 10600/66. Heading C3P. A dust-free lubricant-stabilizer composition for incorporation into a polymer containing halogen comprises a toxic pulverulent stabilizer for the polymer which stabilizer is dispersed in, and the particles of which are enveloped by, a non-polymeric, purely organic component which is a lubricant, but not a stabilizer, for the polymer, and which melts at a temperature above 25‹ C., the stabilizer being insoluble in a melt of the lubricant. The composition may also include a lubricating-stabilizer for the polymer, e.g. a calcium, barium, strontium, magnesium, zinc, cadmium or lead soap of an aliphatic carboxylic acid having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms. The toxic stabilizer may be a basic lead salt of an inorganic acid, a basic lead complex salt of an inorganic acid or organic acid other than an aliphatic carboxylic acid having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, or a basic lead salt of an inorganic acid or organic acid with the addition of an alkyl phenol. The lubricant may be spermaceti, a paraffin, a wax or fatty alcohol containing from 12 to 22 carbon atoms. The compositions may be prepared by dispersing the toxic stabilizer into a melt of the lubricant. The metal salt of the aliphatic carboxylic acid may be produced in the melt. In the examples are used spermaceti, stearic acid, calcium oxide (giving calcium stearate), dibasic lead stearate, dibasic lead phosphite, tallow alcohol, lead oxide (giving lead stearate), tetrabasic lead sulphate and p-octyl phenol. The polymer used is hard polyvinyl chloride. |
