Indexing mechanism for a work table 12 comprises a slide 214 adapted to be reciprocated by fluid pressure cylinder means 64 the slide carrying a roller 68 engaged in a cam slot 72 of a plate 66 which is pivotally mounted and thus oscillatable about the axis of the worktable 12. The plate 66 carries a dog 102 movable by levers 114, 116 respectively into and out of engagement with one or other of a series of spaced blocks 56 mounted on the underside of the worktable, the levers 114, 116 being operated by movement of the roller 68 in the end portions 110, 108 of the cam slot 72. Thus the table 12 is entrained for movement with the cam plate 66 in one direction and released therefrom when the cam plate is returned to its starting position. Reciprocation of the slide 214 also effects suitably timed engagement and disengagement of a shot pin 150 with or from one or other of a series of locking bushes in the worktable. Thus at the end of a forward movement of the slide 214 an arm 226 abuts against a shot-pin operating rod 168 to cam the shot pin 150 into locking position in which it remains until the beginning of the next succeeding forward motion of the slide. At this stage the shot pin operating rod 168 is drawn rearwardly to withdraw the shot pin 150, by an arm 188 one end of which engages a cam way 204 formed between a face 212 on the slide 214 and a lever 210 pivotally mounted on the slide 214. Automatic control means may be provided comprising switches 302, 304 operated by the slide 214 at the ends of its movements and a rotary timer switch 300, which switches control a solenoid operated fluid pressure valve 264 supplying the fluid pressure cylinder means 64.
