A method for replacing the carrying and balancing cables in a multi-cable lifting device for a pit comprises using the driving drum 1 of the lifting device for hauling up old cables and lowering new cables, the cables being handled being wound twice on the drum 1 for gripping purposes, once under and once over pressing roller chains 3 adjacent the periphery of the drum 1. A chain 3 having appropriately profiled rollers is provided for each cable of the multicable group. For replacing the carrying cables, the latter are clamped at 4 to support the lower cage I and are disconnected from the upper cage II which is supported on beams, and the free ends of cable are passed around the outside of the roller chains 3, over a pulley 2, between the chains 3 and the drum 1, over another pulley 5 and on to a spool 7. After freeing the clamp 4 and disconnecting the balancing cables from the lower cage I, the latter is lifted up and supported on beams alongside the cage II, whence the carrying cables are disconnected from the cage 1 and spooled out of the system. The reverse procedure is adopted for installing the new carrying cables. For replacing the balancing cables, once they are hanging loosely from the upper beam supported cage II, they are clamped at the top of the pit and then disconnected from the upper cage II whereupon they are spooled up in the same way as the carrying cables. The embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) shows an arrangement where the driving drum is situated directly over the pit. |
