In a telescopic suspension strut comprising a piston 13 with damping orifices 26 and a valvecontrolled opening 28, and a two-part cylinder 11 with a honed cylinder liner 18, a seal, consisting of rubber-like rings 30, is held in a retainer 20 about midway between the ends of the cylinder 11 to encircle the piston in sliding contact therewith in an area that does not extend beyond the piston-rod end of the cylinder during normal telescoping movement. The inner and outer ends of the piston 13 are guided by sleeves 21, 24 retained respectively in a member 22 secured to the upper end of the piston 13 and in a recess in the inner surface of the cylinder 11. The lower end of the cylinder accommodates a small seal 32 and a resilient wiper 34. The retainer 20 for the seal 30 is clamped between the lower part of the cylinder 11 and the honed cylinder liner 18. |
