1,140,806. Wire or bond tensioning device. B. S. PALMER & CO. Ltd. 5 Sept., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 48186/66. Heading F2G. A wire or band tensioning device comprises a housing in which an hydraulically or pneumatically actuated piston 3, Fig. 1, is arranged so that a wire or band gripping member 6 is actuated by the piston prior to the movement of its carrier by the piston. The band 34 is passed round an article and through a clip 33 which is then engaged with pusher plate 13 and button 16, Fig. 3, is depressed to admit the pressure fluid to the left-hand side of piston 3, Fig. 1. The initial piston movement acts through a connecting rod 7 to rotate pawl 6 into gripping engagement with band 34 and subsequently the piston engages carrier 4 to apply tension to the band. At the predetermined tension the valve is kept open whilst soldering or clinching the clip. Closing the valve vents the cylinder and springs (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), return the piston 3 and carrier 4 to their original positions. During this movement the abutment surface 37 engages abutment surface 36 to arrest carrier 4 and the continued movement of piston 3 results in anti-clockwise rotation of pawl 6 and consequent release of the band 34. A pressure controlling device and/or a non-return valve and/or a pressure gauge may be included in the supply line from the pressure source e.g. a foot pump. |
