A suspension for a heavy load-carrying vehicle having a driven-axle casing 24 and differential gear unit 14 comprises a leaf spring assembly 20 bearing beneath a tube 31 in a hanger bracket assembly 30 and jointly connected to the axle with a beam 21 between which and the vehicle frame 13 is connected an air spring 22. A vibration damper 40 is connected between the beam 21 and frame 13 and pressurized air is supplied to or removed from the spring 22 through a control valve 46 operated in response to changes in the vehicle ride height through a linkage 50, 51. A draft spring-leaf 32 is connected between the hanger bracket 30 and the axle 24 and transverse stabilization is provided by a link 43 pivotally connected between the vehicle frame 13 and a bracket 45 attached to the axle. An identical arrangement may be provided for an additional axle arranged in tandem. The spring 20 and beam 21 may, alternatively, extend in opposite directions to those shown. |
