Material (e.g. iron-ore pellets) is delivered on to an endless conveyer 8 from a conveyer 2 by the action of an intermediate endless member 6, the length of which is half the width of the conveyer 8, the endless member 6 being reciprocable between two extreme positions (Figs. 2 and 4, respectively, not shown). The drive for reciprocating the member 6 is provided by a double-acting fluid pressure operated cylinder 52 having a piston 53 coupled to a frame 22 carrying the endless member 6. The main frame 14 of the conveyer 8 carries a toothed rack 56 which is in engagement with gears on the shafts of the rollers 34 of the endless member 6. This results in the member 6 having a movement relative to its frame 22 which is always in the direction of movement of the frame 22 (under the action of the cylinder 52). The rollers 34 may be adjusted by screws 37 in slots 36 so as to vary the effective length of the member 6. Slack is taken up by the corresponding adjustment of a take-up roll 46. |
