摘要 <p>1317221 Matric displays BURROUGHS CORP 11 May 1970 [28 May 1969 18 Aug 1969] 22693/70 Heading G5C [Also in Division H1] A system for operating a gas discharge display panel 10 (see Division H1) having gas communication channels 120 connecting the cells 50 of each row, and channels 126 connecting the cells of the first column comprises a source 144 of information signals, recirculating shift registers 145 and a counter 162 operated in synchronism by a diode 164. The anodes 80 are connected to individual drivers 130. The cathode 100S of the first column is connected to an individual driver 161, while the remaining cathodes are connected in groups of three to drivers 160A, 160B and 160C. The cells 50S of the first column act as particle-supply or reset cells, and turn on with the aid of keep-alive cells 123. The panel is scanned by pulses applied to the cathode drivers 160A, 160B and 160C by counter 162 to cause the columns of cells to turn on sequentially with the aid of excited particles which diffuse along the channels 120. The glow in ON cells is modulated by signal information on the anodes 80. The system may be modified to drive a two-layer panel by including a second set of anode drivers for the second set of anodes. (Fig. 11, not shown). In an alternative system (Fig. 8, not shown) channels 126 are provided for each column and a row of particle supply cells in communication with a keep-alive cell is provided at the top and at the bottom of the panel. The anodes 80 are connected to a turn-on sequencer so that propagation of excited particles and the turn-on of cells in each column takes place vertically from the top and bottom of a column to the centre. The channels 120 are still provided but are not required in this system of operation.</p>
