摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system, wherein frequency interval is small and generation of crosstalks is small in the case of high speed modulation. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical communication system, carrier waves, different in wavelength which a plurality of light sources generate, are amplitude- modulated with the respective transmission signals by an optical modulator, the modulated carrier waves different in wavelength are multiplexed by a wavelength multiplexer, and the combined multiple-wavelength light is coupled with an optical fiber and transmitted. The multiple-wavelength light transmitted through the optical fiber is converted to an N-times frequency by an N-th order harmonics generating element (N is a two or larger integer), and separated aging to the plurality of carrier waves different in frequency by a wavelength- branching filter.
