A rotary-disc type axial-flow, rimless, ceramic matrix for a thermal regenerator is rotated by a drive arrangement consisting of a ring gear 26 coupled to the matrix 10 by a plurality of resilient members such as spring clips 28, each having a part 42 engageable with the ring gear and another part engaged in a recess 30 in the matrix periphery thereby transmitting a drive from the ring gear to the matrix. As shown, the parts 42 of the clip comprise hooked portions which each engage the rounded end of a flange 46 projecting laterally from the ring gear (see Fig. 4). The arrangement is such that if for some reason rotation of the matrix itself is prevented, the clips 28 can ride out of the recesses 30 on to the outer peripheral surface 22 of the matrix thus preventing damage to the matrix structure by reason of a forced rotation of the ring gear. |
