Two angularly related e.g. mitred, frame members 33, 33a of "open" or "closed" box section are joined together by forming in a web 37, 38, 37a, 38a of each of the members, a gap 43, 44, 43a 44a, adjacent the mitred end 42, 42a, and severing part of the web or flange 45, 46, 45a, 46a adjacent the gaps from the side walls 39, 40, 39a, 40a and bending the severed portions towards the base 34, 34a, of the section to form inclined guideways up to the gaps 43, &c. and inserting into the mitred end of each of the frame members 33, 33a, a respective connecting device comprising a block 20, 20a, generally rectangular in plan and having a major face profiled to form a fulcrum 24, 24a, about which the block can rock, one or more lugs 25 standing proud of the other resin face, at one end of the block, the other end being formed with an abutment surface inclined at e.g. 45‹ to the main surfaces into which opens a bore 31, 3 la extending through .the block perpendicularly to the abutment surface, at least one tennon 28, 29 &c. and complementary recess 27, 30 &c. being provided at each side of the abutment surface, the lugs 25 being guided to engage into the gaps 43, 44 &c., the two frame members being then brought together with the abutment surfaces abutting each other with the tenons and recesses interengaged and a bolt 48 introduced through the bores 31, 31a and tightened by a nut 49. |
