1,156,405. Brake pressure proportioning valves; valves. USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL. 14 April, 1967 [16 April, 1966], No. 17262/67. Headings F2F and F2V. A vehicle air brake pressure regulator comprises a diaphragm 15 attached to a piston 18 and enclosing a space 20 for a control air pressure supply, the diaphragm and a conical washer 14 being attached to an exhaust device 10 and a lever 12 moving the piston in dependence on axle loading to regulate the contact surface area of the diaphragm on the conical washer thereby regulating the air pressure supply to the vehicle brakes. Pressure air from an air tank (not shown) passes via an inlet 2 and a valve 4 to an outlet 6 and also passes via an inlet 21 into space 20. A control mechanism (not shown) moves the lever 22 in dependence on axle load so that a roller 24 acts on a bottom 19 of the piston 18. Downward movement of the piston 18 causes increase of the contact area between the diaphragm 15 and the conical washer 14. In the position shown the vehicle axle is not under load and the minimum braking pressure is required. When braking the control pressure in chamber 20 acts through the diaphragm 15 and conical washer 14 on the exhaust device 10 which closes the connection through outlet 6, space 5, orifices 10, 11 and exhaust orifice 12 and air pressure from the air tank passes via inlet 2, space 3, valve 4 and outlet 6. The pressure in space 5 increases until the forces acting on diaphragm 8 are balanced. Increase of axle load causes an increased contact area between diaphragm 15 and conical washer 14 thereby increasing the downward force acting on diaphragm 8 resulting in an increase in the permitted pressure in gate 5 and the braking system. |
