[Also in Division D1] A method of making reversible non-woven fabrics comprises interposing a fibrous interlay 13 between two bonded fibrous webs 11 and 16 to form a composite structure, subjecting the composite structure to a needle-punching operation, wherein the needles enter from one surface of the composite structure and orient fibres of the fibrous interlay through a bonded fibrous web to project beyond a surface thereof as fibrous tufts 27, and then to a further needlepunching operation wherein the needles enter from the opposite surface of the composite structure and orient fibres of the fibrous interlay through the other bonded fibrous web to project beyond a surface thereof as tufts 30. The fibrous webs may be bonded by adhesive and/or needling. The fibrous interlay is a loose assembly of natural or synthetic resins obtained, for example, by carding, gametting, air deposition or by paper-making techniques. In the example, the bonded fibrous webs comprise needled and heat-bonded heterofilaments of 6: 6 nylon and a random copolymer of 6 and 6: 6 nylon, the fibrous interlay being of 6: 6 nylon. |
