A laminate comprises a vinyl chloride polymer sheet bonded to a styrene polymer sheet by means of polymethylmethacrylate or a copolymer of methyl methaorylate with an alkyl acrylate containing up to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, the polymethacrylate or copolymer of methyl methacrylate having an average molecular weight from 40,000 to 150,000. The acrylic polymer is applied to the vinyl chloride polymer, preferably in solution in, e.g. an aliphatic alcohol mixed with toluene, and the styrene polymer is contacted with this, suitably just after extrusion and at a temperature greater than 135‹ C. Suitable vinyl chloride polymers contain 97 to 85% of vinyl chloride copolymerized with vinyl acetate, diethyl maleate, vinyl propionate, vinyl pimelate or vinyl crotonate or may be a blend of polyvinyl chloride with a vinyl chloride/ vinylidene chloride copolymer, an acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene copolymer which may also have an acrylate or methacrylate copolymerized therewith, or chlorinated polyethylene. The styrene polymer may be a polymer of one or more alkenyl aromatic compounds of the formula where Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon radical or an aromatic halohydrocarbon radical of the benzene series and R is hydrogen or methyl, or copolymers thereof with methyl methacrylate or acrylonitrile or a blend or graft copolymer thereof with rubber. |
