In a belt conveyer comprising an endless belt trained about spaced-apart pulleys and having a working run and a return run, at least part of the working run is enclosed in a conduit 30, and the belt is provided with a plurality of low-friction bearing elements 14 projecting from its upper material-conveying surface for maintaining the upper surface of the belt in spaced relationship from the wall of the conduit. The belt may also be provided with a plurality of spaced-apart material engaging members (Fig. 3, not shown) projecting from the upper material-conveying surface of the belt in a transverse direction some of which form the low-friction bearing elements. The belt may also be provided with a plurality of additional spaced-apart low-friction bearing elements 18 projecting from the lower surface of the belt in a transverse direction for maintaining the lower surface in spaced relationship from the wall of the conduit opposing the lower surface. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the belt is of troughed form. Also, lateral guidance is provided by members 70 which engage the elements 18 to provide lateral guidance of the belt. Additional guidance members 70 (Fig. 7, not shown) may-be disposed between the rows of elements 18. The elements 14, 18 may be in the form of transversely-extending ribs (Fig. 5, not shown). |
