1,161,008. Oxidation of olefines. CELANESE CORP. 1 May, 1967 [2 May, 1966], No. 19917/67. Heading C2C. In a process for the partial oxidation of olefines with a redox system catalyst comprising a salt of a noble metal of Group VIII of Mendeleef's Periodic Table and a cupric salt in an acid liquid medium, and oxygen, the liquid with the oxygen containing organic product and the solids formed in the reaction is withdrawn from the reaction zone and the solids separated and treated with sodium hydroxide solution. The copper oxalate present is converted to cupric oxide which together with the noble metal is separated from the solution, and the separated solids treated with hydrochloric or acetic acid to form a mixture of copper and noble metal salts, which may be returned, after acid oxidation, to the reaction zone. An example describes the preparation of vinyl acetate from ethylene using palladium and cupric chloride or acetate with an apparatus suitable for the regeneration of the catalyst. |
