SiCl 4 may be prepared by injecting HCl gas at 4 into a bed of a Fe-Si alloy containing 89-91% Si, producing temperatures of 800-1200‹ C. in reaction zone 5. The gaseous reaction product issuing from the reactor at 6 can be fed back into the reactor at 7 to cool the reaction mass.
