Fuel cell assembly - with methanol fuel supply and acid - electrolyte and using integral conversion

The cell by-products are CO2 and H2O. The gas generator in which the methanol is cracked into CO and H2 is connected directly to the cell whose anodes contain one or more catalysts e.g. WC and/or heavy metal sulphides, for the further conversion of the above gases. The overall size, weight and cost are reduced, the need for an intermediate purifier avoided and poisoning of the electrolyte with CO is prevented.
