[Also in Division F2] A fuel-filtering cartridge comprising a stack of annular paper washers or helically wound ribbon in a perforate casing 26, has an outlet ferrule 32 at one end and a buoyant spherical valve member 42 normally retained between two perforate water-soluble diaphragms 46, of cellulose polymer, located at opposite ends of a sleeve 44 dividing the stack or ribbon. If the fuel being filtered contains water, the diaphragms dissolve and member 42 is carried into ferrule 32 where it prevents further flow through the cartridge.
