The constituents of the nutritive base, through which the mushroom mycelium spreads, is heated at the sterilising temp., with continuous stirring, to soften and homogenise the mixture, in a closed vessel. The mixt. may be moistened by direct injection of steam or with the aid of exterior heating. The sterilised, homogenised nutritive base is then transferred to a cooling vessel, cooled to a temp. which will support the mushroom mycelium, and mixed with the inoculant. The inoculated nutritive base is then placed in a container of synthetic or other material suitable for the spread of teh mycelium through the base, and maintained at the correct conditions for mushroom culture. The mushrooms produced by this process are suitable for use as human food or animal feeds. |
