<p>1,228,205. Break spinning and double twisting device. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP. 9 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42839/68. Heading DID. A method of break spinning comprises disintegrating a fibre or rovings and subsequently reconstituting it into a ribbon, forming the ribbon into a balloon whereby at least two turns of twist per balloon rotation is inserted and winding up the produced yarn on a package. As shown fibres F are passed up a venturi tube 30 from rollers 28 to pass into a rotor 50 mounted on a tube 38 driven by a belt 48. The fibres pass outwardly through a passage 80 to a fibre collecting ring 74 which is slowly rotating e.g. at 5 r.p.m. The ring has a series of holes 79 through which suction is applied to hold the fibres on the ring. The ribbon of fibres formed is taken up between belts 86, 88 driven by rollers 90, 92 and is then passed between a belt 116 and a roller 112 which has a high peripheral speed to draft the fibres. The ribbon then passes downwardly through a tube 162 to emerge from the spindle and pass to a guide 18 whence it is ballooned at 20 and then led to be taken up on a surface drive yarn package. The drafting elements are carried on a platform 58 mounted on bearings 60, 62 and held stationary. Gear teeth 64 are formed on rotating tube 56 to drive a gear 66 and then through a gear train the drafting elements 110, 112, 114, 116. The belt driving rollers 90, 92 are driven through a further train and drive is taken therefrom through gears 150, 154, 76 to a ring gear 78 formed on ring 74 to slowly rotate the ring. Blades 54 are formed on member 52 carried by rotating tube 38 to produce the suction for holes 79. The drafting roller 112 is formed with apertures about a central circumference and suction is applied to its interior so as to compact the fibres thereabout.</p> |
