<p>1286685 Arc rupturing in switches GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 16 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968] 61209/69 Heading H1N An arc-chute for an air circuit breaker is coupled to an exhaust gas cooler 35 which is open on three sides such that the resultant three directional cooled-gas flow will decrease the back pressure in the chute. The cooler comprises a plurality of perforated corrugated metal plates stacked with perforated planar metal plates and separated into groups by imperforate gas-evolving insulating plates 61. The arc formed between the two contacts 1, 2 is driven by the magnetic blowout coils 8, 9 into the arcchute 7 along metal runners 8<SP>1</SP> and 9<SP>1</SP>. The walls of the chute and the interwoven fins within the chute, Fig. 2 (not shown), are of a gas-evolving material.</p> |
