2-cyanoacrylate esters of general formula (I) R = straight- or branched aliphatic hydrocarbons (C2-8, pref. C2-6) Rf = straight- or branched fluoroaliphatic groups (C1-8, pref. C1-5) pref. at least one F-atom per C-atom and ending in CF3 X = R-H, CH3, Rf or H; pref. Rf or H (I) polymerise quickly to adhesives with great strength in the presence of water and with small change in volume upon polymerisation. They may be used esp. in applications in dentistry such as in orthodontic-, prosthodontic- and endodontic applications. (I) May also be polymerised to form addition- and copolymers. Compns. contng. (I) give very strong bonds of exceptional stability against decomposition by moisture in the mouth. They have no unfavourable effect on tooth enamel and minimal toxicity on dentine. (I) Hardens at body temp. in less than 2 mins. which gives enough time for manipulation. The low viscosity gives some flow in very small crevices and strong bonding to the tooth surface. |
