This invention relates to a system for providing a controlled sweep of a beam in accordance with a variable rate of recurrence of a particular phenomenon. The rate of sweep is adjusted so that the sweep occurs during a particular portion of the time between successive recurrences of the particular phenomenon. The retrace occurs during the remaining portion of the time between successive recurrences of the particular phenomenon.
