The storage cabinet has a cabinet housing (11) with an access opening (13) provided at working height and preferably two supports (15, 15') with a plurality of levels to receive drawers or the like (19). A conveying device allows the supports (15, 15') to be positioned at the access opening in such a way that the desired level, i.e. the desired drawer or the like, is accessible. Only a single support (15, 15') is arranged above a particular bottom area of the cabinet housing (11). The compartment in the cabinet housing provided above this bottom area is virtually twice as high as twice the height of the support (15, 15') minus the height of the part which is accessible from this support at the access opening (13). By means of this construction of the storage cabinet, the conveying device (29, 31, 45) can be of an extremely simple design and the cabinet depth can be kept to a minimum. Nevertheless, the depth of the support (15, 15') can be greater than the depth of a support in a cabinet with circulating supports because there is no necessity for two supports to be arranged one behind the other. <IMAGE>
