PURPOSE:To enable even thick plates to be sufficiently aged by performing ageing by supplying air containing ozone into a container which has an air supply hole and an exhaust hole and in which plates formed by packing a paste are installed. CONSTITUTION:Positive plates 9 for a lead storage battery formed by packing a paste are stacked and installed in a container 5 having an air supply hole 5 and an exhaust hole 5b. Ageing of the plate 9 is performed by supplying a mixture gas prepared by mixing air sent from a blower 1 through a humidity controller 2 and ozone supplied from an ozone generator 3 in a mixer 4 into the container 5 and by performing feed back control by means of signals from an ozone sensor 11 and a humidity sensor 12. As a result, ozone absorbed by alkaline moisture in the paste is hydrolized by reactive oxygen thereby supplying oxygen atoms necessary for ageing into the innermost area of the paste. By the means mentioned above, it is possible to perform sufficient ageing of even relatively thick plates. |
