PURPOSE:To improve the recording density by executing the recording/ reproduction of information, by utilizing the polarization of a ferroelectric layer, to plural laminated recording layers. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 11 consists of recording layers 13a-13d laminated on a glass substrate 12, and the respective recording layers are formed by a photoconductive layer and a ferroelectric layer placed between strip-shaped electrodes. In case of recording, switches 21-24 connected to each electrode are controlled by a control device 28, a voltage source 25 is applied to the selected storage layer, a laser beam 32 is focused thereto by a lens 33 and the photoconductive layer is made to conduct, and information is recorded by the polarization of the ferroelectric layer. In case of reproduction, the electrode of the selected recording layer is connected to a charge amplifier 27 by the control of the device 28, and by heating the ferroelectric layer by the beam 32, a pyroelectric current is detected. Accordingly, by increasing the number of layers of the recording layer, the recording density in the surface direction of the recording medium can be improved. |
