A method to remove a liquid medium, which forms an explosive mixture in the vaporous state with atmospheric oxygen, from a floating-roof tank, in particular to remove the residues of a combustible or fuel when a floating-roof tank is decommissioned, in which the floating roof has supports which stand on the tank bottom, forming a hollow space between the floating roof and the tank bottom while the residues are being removed, a non-combustible liquid being fed to the floating-roof tank via a filling line, and the liquid medium being introduced into an opening in a removal line arranged just below the floating roof when the floating-roof supports have been placed on the tank bottom.
