Symmetric di-fatty acid diamides are prepd by (a) reacting the corresp fatty acids or esters, opt in a solvent, with diamines, in presence of catalysts and/or antioxidants, (b) sepg the diamides from the reaction mixt by solubility difference, and (c) if necessary, purifying by recrystallisation. USE/ADVANTAGE - The diamides are used in processing synthetics, as lubricant additives, as fluxes in soldering, or as intermediates. Eg, diamides with C=C or 0H gps can be reacted with bifunctional cpds, eg diisocyanates, to give pre-polymers, synthetics and synthetic additives, eg for adhesives, sealants, synthetic foams, lubricants or technical auxiliaries. The free fatty acids can be obtd by saponification (claimed), opt for further conversion, eg to raw materials for synthetics or synthetic additives. Pure cpds are obtd suitable for synthetics and as raw material for prodn of pure fatty acids difficult to obtain by other processes.
