PURPOSE:To reduce the number of sensors and prevent the occurrence of failure such as entanglement by detecting the residual amount of ink in an ink tank and detecting the opening and closing of a cover covering a plotter by means of a single sensor. CONSTITUTION:A plotter device includes a reflection type photo-sensor 7 located downstream of an ink jet type ink head 6, a reflection board 8 opposed to the photo-sensor, a cover 13 for open/closure of a casing, a plotter drive system for transferring record paper, and a control unit 20 for actuating parts based on the detection signals from the photo-sensor. And the reflection board is constituted so as to move back and forth from a location opposed to the photo- sensor in association with the opening and closing action of the cover 13 and the control unit actuates the ink head to form ink end marks on the end of the record paper and also judges ink end and the opening and closing of the cover based on the result of detection by the photo-sensor relating to the presence of the board and based on the result of detection relating to the presence of marks and presence of the action of the plotter drive system. |
