PURPOSE: To obtain an enhancer for the bactericidal efficacy, containing capric acid and/or d-dodecalactone in a quaternary ammonium-based bactericide and capable of enhancing the bactericidal efficacy of the bactericide. CONSTITUTION: This enhancer contains capric acid and/or d-dodecalactone as active ingredients in a small amount of <=0.0005vol./wt.% in a quaternary ammonium-based bactericide. (e.g. cetylpyridinium chloride). The bactericidal efficacy of a medicinal composition for the oral cavity containing the quaternary ammonium-based bactericide blended therein can be enhanced by blending the capric acid and/or d-dodecalactone as the active ingredients therein. The composition is especially effective in contact with bacteria of Streptococcus mutans, Prevotel 1a intermedia, Haemophilus actinomycetemcomitans and Fusobacterium nucleatum. The enhancer is capable of preventing diseases in the oral cavity such as periodontitis, gingivitis or carious teeth and is useful for cleaning especially a gingival marginal part and preventing halitosis. |
