<p>Fluid distribution materials are particularly useful in absorbent core structures used in disposable absorbent articles such as baby diapers, incontinence products, and catamenial products. Wicking properties in a preferential fluid distribution direction of a fluid distribution material are improved by a mechanical post formation treatment. Essentially, the post formation treatment consists of feeding a web (1) of the fluid distribution material between two corrugated rolls (21, 25). Each corrugated roll (21, 25) has intermeshing circumferential ridges (35) and grooves (31). The widths of the ridges (35) and grooves (31) are related to the caliper of the web (1) and the degree of overlap (39) of opposing ridges (35) can be adjusted to vary the degree of mechanical treatment.</p> |
