PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solvent with a reduced arom. odor without detriment to the characteristics of an arom. hydrocarbon by adding a specified amt. of a perfume to an arom. hydrocarbon having a specified degree of aromaticity or higher. SOLUTION: The arom. hydrocarbon dealt with here as a b.p. of 200 deg.C or higher, a structure represented by the formula (where R1 is a 1-4C aliph. hydrocarbon group; and R2 to R4 are each H or a 1-4C aliph. hydrocarbon group provided the sum of the numbers of carbon atoms of R1 to R4 is 1-9), and a degree of aromaticity (the ratio of the number of carbon atoms forming an arom. ring to the number of total carbon atoms in the molecule) measured by<13> C NMR of 50% or higher. An esp. effective perfume is an oxygen-contg. compd. because of its effectiveness in eliminating an arom. odor, examples being an ester, an ether, an alcohol, a carboxylic acid, and an aldehyde. Usually the addition of a small amt. (0.01-1wt.%) of a perfume having a b.p. higher than that of the solvent is pref. |
