PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil for light metals which reduces the friction at lubricated light-metal parts by compounding a lube base oil with a specified amt. of a compd. having a plurality of long-chain alkyl or alkenyl groups. SOLUTION: This lubricating oil is prepd. by formulating a lube base oil comprising a mineral or synthetic oil having a kinematic viscosity (40 deg.C) of 1.5-500 mm<2> /s with 0.1-30 wt.% (based on the lubricating oil) at least one compd. of the formula: R1 -X-R2 [wherein R1 and R2 are each a 6-30C long-chain alkyl or alkenyl group; and X is an atom or a group of atoms selected from among -O-, -NH-, -CO-, -CONH-, -CH(OH)-, -OCH2 CH2 O-, -OCH2 CH2 OCH2 CH2 O-, and -OCH(CH3 )CH2 O-], examples of this compd. being di-n-octyl ether, di-n- coctylamine, 9-heptadecanone, N-octylocatanamide, 9-heptadecanol, etc. If necessary, an oiliness agent, an extreme pressure agent, a dispersant, and anticorrosive agent, and antioxidant, an antifoaming agent, etc., are also incorporated into the lubricating oil. |
