PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject 1,3-cycloalkadiene of high purity that is useful for high heat-resistance polymer with extremely reduced production of by- products, namely 1,4-cyclohexadiene, by subjecting a dichloro-cycloalkane to dehydrochlorination in an aprotic polar solvent with metal (hydrogen) carbonate. SOLUTION: A 1,3-cycloalkadiene is produced from a 1,2-dichlorocycloalkane (for example, 1,2-dichlorocyclo-hexane. In an aprotic polar solvent (for example, N-methylpyrrolidinone in an amount of 1.0-2.5-fold moles of a metal (hydrogen) carbonate, (for example, calcium carbonate is used in an amount of 1.0-2.5-fold moles based on the 1,2-cycloalkane, to effect the dehydrochlorination into 1,3- cycloalkadiene at 100-200 deg.C.
