PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vinyl ester and a flame retardant resin composition having sufficient flame retardance and heat and water resistances. SOLUTION: This vinyl ester has one or more phosphonic ester structures on the average based on one molecule and two or more (meth)acryloyl groups. The flame retardant resin composition is the one comprising a radically polymerizable resin containing the vinyl ester and a polymerizable unsaturated monomer. The weight ratio of the vinyl ester to the polymerizable unsaturated monomer is (20/80) to (99/1) The content of the radically polymerizable resin is 10-100 wt.% based on the total amount of the flame retardant resin composition.
