PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader where deficiency in the light quantity can be eliminated in an original carrying mode in which a relative moving speed of a light source with respect to an original is increased. SOLUTION: When a 2nd original detection section detects an original 10, a mode setting sections sets the original carrying mode. In this case, when a print key is operated, a reading control section allows a light source movement section to move a light source unit 23 and a reflection mirror unit 26 up to a prescribed position, allows each lighting circuit to light a main light source 21 and an auxiliary light source 41, activates a carrying drive section to drive carrying rollers 13-15 thereby passing the original 10 through a read position opposed to the carrying roller 14 on an original platen glass plate 5. The main light source 21 and the auxiliary reflection plate 41 emit a light to the original 10 passing through the read position and an imaging section images a reflected light from the original 10.
