PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic emulsion having long shelf life, high sensitivity and high contrast. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic emulsion containing silver halide grains having the spectral absorption maximum wavelength at <500 nm and a light absorption strength of >=60 or the spectral absorption maximum wavelength at >=500 nm and a light absorption intensity of >=100, the coefficient of variation in the intergrain distribution of light absorption strength is <=100%.
