PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning type plotting device capable of inclining the scanning direction of a beam to a specified direction with reference to a main scanning direction. SOLUTION: This plotting device is equipped with a position detecting means for detecting the present position of the beam, a light deflector provided on an optical path leading to a polygon mirror from a light source and deflecting the beam in a subscanning direction on a plotting surface, and a control means inclining a scanning line drawn by making the beam perform scanning once to the specified direction with reference to the main scanning direction by controlling a deflection means based on positional information from a detection means. By utilizing the response characteristic of the light deflector consisting of a piezoelectric element, the linearity of the scanning line drawn by making the beam perform the scanning once is maintained even when a control signal for the light deflector is made a signal changed stepwise in every small section in the case of dividing the scanning range of the beam into plural small sections.
