PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on board apparatus and a method for image reproduction, wherein usage convenience is superior by preventing an unintentional operation, and to provide a recording medium in which control software for the on board image reproducing apparatus is recorded. SOLUTION: A menu sensing part 1 senses a menu mode in which information on an operation is displayed on a display screen. A menu release part 2 releases the menu mode when the running state of a vehicle is sensed by a state sensing circuit 14. When a changeover sensing part 3 senses a changeover to the menu mode from the reproducing state of an image, a position storage part 4 stores a reproducing position at this point of time. A reproduction resumption part 5 resumes the reproduction of a DVD from the position stored in the part 4 when the menu mode is released by the part 2.
