PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for remotely controlling camera for taking panoramic picture, which enables an operator to automatically generate a panoramic picture on the screen of a base station unconsciously of the direction and, in addition, can set a photographing direction and a photographing range. SOLUTION: Azimuth positions in the horizontal and vertical directions in the whole movable range A of the line of sight of a camera 1 are correlated with a panoramic picture frame on the screen 23 of a processor 20 which displays a taken picture, and the processor 20 instructs a tripod head device 10 to take pictures by successively designating the positions to the line of sight of the camera 1 at a plurality of azimuth positions on the screen 23. The tripod device 10 detects the azimuth position of the camera 1 by means of a horizontal direction setting section 11 and a vertical direction setting section 12 and, in addition, can rotate the camera 1 to a designated azimuth. Since the azimuth positions correspond to each other on the screen 23 of the processor 20, the line of sight or photographing ranges B and C of the camera 1 can be displayed on the screen 23 and, in addition, the line of sight and photographing range of the camera 1 can be designated to a position displayed on the screen 23.
