PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball type differential gear, capable of obtaining differential limiting force according to the input torque with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: A cam surface 34 to press a ball 32 toward a rotation axial center of this differential gear, according to torque inputted from an input shaft 17 is formed on a ball-holding plate 19, and an abutting surface of the ball 32 on an output plate 30 is formed in a taper surface 30d which is opened in an outer diametric direction of the output plate 30. As the input torque into the differential gear is increase, the ball 32 is pushed toward the rotation center by the cam surface 34, to push the taper surfaces 30d on both sides to open. Frictional force of both output plates 30 to a differential case 14 is thus increased, to provide input characteristics to increase energization force in accordance with the input torque inputted from the differential case side. When the input torque exceeds a prescribed value, the ball 32 is pushed and moved by a prescribed quantity toward the rotation center, to be engaged in a ball lock groove 30G which is formed in a ball support flange 30c on the output plate 30, thereby resulting in a ball-locked state, that is, a differential function step state.
