PURPOSE: A method for inputting a character of a cellular phone and a cellular phone using the same are provided to quickly input characters by simply selecting the inputs of the characters assigned in each key by the operation of a shift key. CONSTITUTION: If it is a character input mode, it is judged whether the first shift key(K1) is inputted(401). If the first shift key(K1) is inputted, a character code corresponding to a character which corresponds to the first series of a numerical key inputted by a user is inputted and the inputted character code is stored in a temporal butter(402,403). If the second shift key(K2) is inputted, a character code corresponding to a character which corresponds to the second series of a numerical key inputted by the user is inputted and the inputted character code is stored in the temporal butter(404,405). If the third shift key(K3) is inputted, a character code corresponding to a character which corresponds to the third series of a numerical key inputted by the user is inputted and the inputted character code is stored in the temporal butter(406,407). The character codes stored in the temporal buffer are combined, and one character is formed(408).
