PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new gene having a specific base sequence, participating in the production of poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or poly-γ-D,L-glutamic acid and enabling efficient production of a poly-γ-glutamic acid with controlled quality and quantity. SOLUTION: This new gene has a base sequence of formula or a base sequence corresponding to the amino acids in the formula, participates in the production of poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or poly-γ-D,L-glutamic acid and enables the production of poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or poly-γ-D,L-glutamic acid under controlled quality and quantity in high efficiency even by using a foreign microorganism as a host cell. The gene can be produced by preparing a chromosome DNA from Bacillus subtilis IFO 3336 strain by conventional method, preparing a gene library, culturing the gene, subjecting the product to electrophoresis and recovering a gene from a positive clone exhibiting detected band corresponding to polyglutamic acid. |
