PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc discharge lamp wherein a deposition is made not to occur in an arc environment in which there is a possibility that solid or liquid amalgam will cause changes of lumen outputs and lumen temperatures. SOLUTION: The arc discharge lamp has an arc chamber, has an amalgam tip part, and this amalgam tip part is mounted on the arc chamber via a narrowed region and communicating, has an amalgam retaining member, and this amalgam retaining member is adjacent to the narrowed region in the arc chamber, and is difficult to be influenced by vibrations, and is impermeable for the solid and liquid amalgam, permeable for mercury vapor, and has amalgam, and this amalgam is included in the amalgam tip part.
