PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treating method by which organic substances in water can be efficiently decomposed and COD, TOC and chromaticity or the like can be effectively reduced, and to provide a water treating agent. SOLUTION: Organic substance-containing water is brought into contact with a calcium oxide-containing material under presence of hydrogen peroxide to decompose organic substances in water. As the calcium oxide-containing material, calcium hydroxide, calcium carbonate or a material obtained by heating treatment of calcium carbonate-containing natural raw materials or slag are preferably used. Further organic substances in water can be decomposed by bringing the organic substance-containing water into contact with a calcium peroxide-containing material. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
