PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and compact brake mechanism for braking the rotating motion of a shaft around its axis and the linear motion thereof in its axial direction by utilizing the elastic deformation of an annular body. SOLUTION: The brake mechanism 1 comprises the annular body 2 elastically deformable in the radial direction. On an inner peripheral face 21 of the annular body 2, inside protrusions 3a, 3b are formed which are protruded to the radial inside, and on an outer peripheral face 22 thereof, outside protrusions 4a, 4b are formed which are protruded to the radial outside. To the shaft S inserted into the annular body 2, braking force is applied with the elastic restoring force of the annular body 2 by the inside protrusions 3a, 3b to constrain the movement of the shaft S.
