PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cam shaft that allows the reduction of noise due to tooth clicks, does not require enlargement of the width of the tooth surface even when resin is used in the tooth section, does not require a long axial dimension, does not require reconstruction of a crankcase section and shape change or the like of components following the reconstruction, allows inexpensive manufacturing of the whole device, and can be used stably for a long time. SOLUTION: In the cam shaft having a cam gear, the tooth section of a part of the tooth surface of the cam gear is formed of resin, the tooth section is formed in a central part of an end of the width of the tooth surface and is formed more projectedly from the tooth surface of a metal tooth section carrying the strength, thereby forming a step on the tooth surface. The width of the tooth surface of a resin-made tooth section is set smaller than that of the tooth surface of the metal tooth section carrying the strength, and a part of the resin-made tooth section is filled into a supporting hole disposed in the metal tooth section to form the supporting section.
