<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter 1 having a function capable of suppressing a reverse rotation phenomenon of an armature 2 occurring in engine stall or when a vehicle moves backward due to engine stall on a climbing road. <P>SOLUTION: This starter 1 is so structured that a pinion gear 7 is always geared with a ring gear 25 of the engine and is provided with a reverse rotation preventing clutch 8 for preventing the armature 2 of a motor 3 from rotating in a direction opposite to that in engine driving. The reverse rotation preventing clutch 8 is structured in a direction in which a clutch roller 29 runs idle and a clutch inner 27 is allowed to rotate in engine driving. That is to say, by allowing the inner clutch 27 to rotate in engine driving, the rotation of the armature 2 is transmitted to an output shaft 5 through a reduction gear 6. When torque in a direction opposite to that in engine driving is transmitted to the armature 2, the clutch roller 29 is locked and the rotation of the clutch inner 27 is restricted, whereby the armature 2 is prevented from rotating in the direction opposite to that in engine driving. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
