PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for eliminating a deteriorated rope grease capable of reliably collecting the eliminated grease by surely performing the elimination of the deteriorated rope grease from the surface of a wire rope for suspending a gate without manual wiping using waste or removal by jetting cleaning water. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a recovery container 4 having a peripheral wall and a bottom wall and forming a rope inserting opening 3b having a mouth edge part connected to a rope R in the center of the bottom wall, and an inserting hole 8a having an elastic hole wall connected by press to the rope, a grease scraping member 8 scraping grease from the rope surface by the elastic hole wall in the course of movement in an axial line direction to the rope, and a holding member 9 for the grease scraping member installed on the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical container so as to hold the grease scraping member in a state of press-connecting the elastic hole wall to the rope and forming a partition wall partitioning the inside of the container into an upper recovery chamber 4c and a lower recovery chamber 4d in cooperation with the held grease scraping member.
